Join us to talk about Generative AI Law and Policy on April 9
As generative AI continues to reshape industries, the legal and policy frameworks that govern it are struggling to keep up. Key questions include: Who owns the rights to AI-generated content? Is it legal for AI systems to be trained on proprietary content? And how should copyright laws adapt to a world where machines are the creators?
With governments and regulatory bodies increasingly stepping in to define frameworks that balance innovation with protection, it’s crucial for businesses and developers to understand these evolving laws to ensure responsible use and avoid potential legal pitfalls.
Some recent news:
In recent weeks, Meta, Google, OpenAI and others have asked the Trump administration to block state A.I. laws and to declare that it is legal for them to use copyrighted material to train their A.I. models.
A federal judge ruled that The New York Times and other newspapers can proceed with a copyright lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft seeking to end the practice of using their stories to train artificial intelligence chatbots.
The music industry is calling on Amazon to ditch its tie-up with a controversial AI company that has been accused of plundering copyrighted works.
The future of AI law and policy will shape how generative AI is used across a range of industries, from creative fields to commercial applications, making it essential to stay informed as these changes unfold.

Generative AI Mailbag
This week’s question: It seems like there is new generative AI news every five minutes. How do I keep up? How do I know what tools are worth my time?
Answer: You already subscribe to our email newsletter, so you are covered for keeping up with news. And you do not need to learn everything. If you focus on just a few things, you’ll be ahead of most people. Get good at using one of the main tools - ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. I would also recommend using Deep Research (from Google or GhatGPT) and Notebook LM. If you can learn those three things, you’ll be way ahead of most people in this space.
